Richard “Dick” D. Baker, 78, of Fitzgerald died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, July 6, 2012 at Pine Level United Methodist Church with the Rev. Annette Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Baker was born October 29, 1933 in Middleboro, Massachusetts to the late Francis and Margaret Carroll Baker. He was a retired Gunnery Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam and Korea. He was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was a member of VFW Post #2093, Orlando, FL, American Legion Post #99 in Fitzgerald, and a member of the Elk’s Lodge #1036 in Fitzgerald. He always said,” I was a Marine for 20 years, a machinist for 20 years, then Pauline moved me to Georgia and tried to make a farmer out of me.” Mr. Baker enjoyed Nascar, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was survived by his wife: Pauline Morgan Baker of Fitzgerald; daughters: Dona-Jean Petach, of Freehold New Jersey, Nancy & Buster Anderson of Fitzgerald, Carolyn & Mike Renouf of Savannah, GA; son: Roy Barrage of North Carolina; grandchildren: Shadow N. Moyer, Danielle J. Petach, Dionne & Simon Muckle, Ryan J. & Sara Moyer, Elizabeth A. Moyer-Burns and Brett, Stephanie Anderson, Allahnah Quinone, Ricki Quinone, David Quinone, Zoe Gaspari and Sachary Gaspari; great-grandchildren: Kadence Clark, Emma Moyer and Grayson Burns; brothers-in-law, Robert W. Morgan of Olathe, KS and Henry (Carmel) Maxson of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Betty Morgan of Shrewsbury, NJ, Violet Allaire of Tinton Falls, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister.
