Dino Sotiropoulos, age 92, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Toda) Sotiropoulos; two daughters, Joanne and her husband Craig Bombard of West Boylston and Dina and her husband Ronald Entwistle of Holden; a brother, Tony Soter; five grandchildren, Jacqueline and her husband Andrew Cavanaugh, Nicholas Boule, and Matthew, David, and Christina Entwistle; a great-grandson, Thomas Cavanaugh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Angelo, Arthur, Andrew, George, and Penelope.
Dino was born in Worcester, son of Theodore and Eugenia (Panagopoulos) Sotiropoulos. He was a graduate of North High and served in the US Coast Guard during WWII aboard an LST in the Philippines. Dino was a restaurateur, founding the Miss Worcester Diner in 1947 and The Commerce Building Cafeteria in the 1960s. He also co-founded the Highlander Restaurant with family. He was a chef at Nick’s Colonial Grille, The Sheraton Lincoln, and Northworks Bar & Grille. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Guiding Lights Lodge A.F. & A.M. Dino’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and inviting his large circle of friends and co-workers into his home for celebrations.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street on Thursday, July 5, from 4-7 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester MA 01609 on Friday, July 6, at 11 am. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Nursing Home, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester MA 01606.
