SPRINGFIELD – Helen P. (Larzazs) Messier, 84, of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Minersville, Pennsylvania on March 18, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Walter F. and Anna H. (Shellick) Larzazs. She attended Minersville High School until 1944 when her family moved to Ware, Massachusetts where she graduated from Ware High School. In 1950, she moved to Springfield and lived here the remainder of her life. She later furthered her education and attended Springfield Technical Community College. She was employed as a customer service representative and later a supervisor and worked for General Accident Insurance and the William F. Foley Insurance Company, both in Springfield and the Insurance Center of New England in West Springfield. She was the former secretary of the Western Mass Prostate Cancer Group at Holyoke Medical Center and a former member of the Insurance Women’s Club. During her leisure time, she enjoyed jewelry making, scrapbooking and stamp collecting, Victorian style antiques and working on family genealogy. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield. She was a loving woman who adored her family and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by: her loving son, Stephen J. Messier, who was Called Home on June 21, 1986; and her dear brother, Walter F. Larzazs, Jr. She leaves her devoted husband and best friend, Louis O. Messier. They were married on September 8, 1946 in Ware and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. She also leaves: her loving children, Louis O. Messier, Jr. and his wife, Assunta, and Robert P. Messier and his companion, Rebecca Allen, all of Springfield; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Messier, Jennifer and Matthew Ferri and Stephanie and Marc Lapierre; and her cherished great-granddaughters whom she adored, Katherine, Sydney and Carmela Ferri and Zoe and Penelope Lapierre, all of Springfield. In addition, she also leaves her grandchildren, Robert Messier, Kelly Ann LaPaige and Timothy Messier and their families of North Carolina; her dear brother, George Larzazs of Ware; her dear sister-in-law, Marge Larzazs of Ware; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street, Springfield, MA 01105. Her burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Springfield Cemetery. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
