Albert B. DeMatos, 87, of Dartmouth passed away Thursday June 28, 2012 at Our Lady's Haven surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Marianna J. (Cordeiro) DeMatos; they were married in 1951.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Alvaro DeMatos and Lucy (Botelho) Sicilia, he lived in Dartmouth since 1963.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mr. DeMatos was formerly employed for 43 years by Commonwealth Electric, serving ten years as Electric Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution.
He graduated from Durfee High School in 1942 and Northeastern University with a B.A. in Electrical Engineering in 1951. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Infantry. He was a member of the A.A.R.P. and the Commonwealth Electric Retirees. His greatest joy was the annual family gathering in New Hampshire.
Survivors include his widow and their children, Christine and husband Joseph Pepin of Douglas, Kerry and wife Jennifer DeMatos of Oxnard, CA, Lynn Jarosz of Douglas, Lee and wife Teresa DeMatos of Worcester, and Kim and husband Peter Marshall of Wolfeboro, NH; his brothers, Alvaro and wife Roslind DeMatos of Westport, and John and wife Delores DeMatos of Surprise, AZ; and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Matthew, and Michael Pepin, Ashley and Jonathan DeMatos, Sarah Jarosz, Jacob, Stephanie, Sarah, Rylie, and Jessica DeMatos, Sofia and Peter Marshall, Jr.
He was the father of the late Albert DeMatos, Jr. and Ann Marie DeMatos.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
