Obituary

Howard William Stone, 94, died Tuesday, June 26th at Windham Terrace Assisted Living.

Mr. Stone was born on February 17, 1918 to Beatrice and Howard W. Stone Sr. and grew up in Methuen, MA. He graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen, MA. Mr. Stone married Constance Ann McClary just prior to entering the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he received a silver star and a bronze star on his Asiatic ribbon. These honors represented seven major battles. He achieved the rank of Water Tender third class.

Howard settled down with Connie in Salem, NH. He worked as an auxiliary police officer at Canobie Lake Park and at Rockingham Park, part time. He was principally employed as a machinist locally and eventually with Sylvania Electric in Salem MA, which is where he retired from in 1982.Over the years, Howard enjoyed summers with his family at their camp on Paugas Bay, Lake Winnipesaukee. There he enjoyed boating, fishing, waterskiing and swimming. Louise and Howard often went dancing on the weekends with their friends at Irwin Gardens at Weirs Beach. In his retirement years, Howard loved to garden and golf. Mr. Stone spent the last ten years of his life at Windham Terrace Assisted Living in Windham, NH. Until recently he enjoyed bowling, going out to local restaurants with the other residents. He always took part in the social aspects offered by the management at the home; such as bingo, card playing, chorus and seeing visiting entertainers.

He was predeceased by his first wife: Constance A. (McClary) Stone and his second wife Louise C. (Bennett) Stone. He was also predeceased by his son Gary A. Stone.

He is survived by his 3 Sons: Randall E. Stone of Salem, NH
Kenneth & his wife Lois Stone of Las Vegas, NV
Ronnie & his wife Jackie Stone of So. Carolina

Daughter: Linda & her husband John Wayman of Litchfield, NH

Brother: Charles Albert Stone of Meredith, NH
12 Grandchildren, Several Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces & Nephews

Calling hours will be Monday, July 2nd from 10AM-12PM, followed by a funeral service at 12 noon at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.
Burial is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
