Mr. Albert Meola 90, of Somerville, formerly of Boston’s North End died on Sunday, June 24, in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a brief illness. He is the husband of the late Geraldine (Melino) Meola who died in 1971. He is the longtime companion of Carmella Ciampa of Boston’s North End. Born in Boston, son of the late James and Nancy (Cirone) Meola, he was educated in local North End schools. Al remained a resident of Boston’s North End until 1960 and then moved to Somerville. In earlier years, he worked as a laborer, considered more of a “Jack of all trades” at the former Old Mr. Boston Distillery retiring in 1980 after working there for more than 40 years.
Al was a proud family man and enjoyed family gatherings. He also liked cruises, playing horse shoes, bocci, and was known to participate in occasional games of chance. Some of his favorite travel destinations were Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Las Vegas and Puerto Rico. Al was a bit of a homebody and enjoyed watching game shows. He could also be considered an avid Boston sports fan, the Red Sox in particular. In addition to his beloved companion, he leaves 2 sons, Vincent Meola and his wife Cheryl of Tewksbury, Al Meola Jr. and his wife Sheila of Somerville. Brother of Antoinette Petrucelli of Medford, Angela Paone of CA.; and the late Louis, Armando and Helen Meola and Adeline Cortese. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main Street Medford on Thursday June 28 at 9:00 AM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church 441 Fellsway West at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, 4-8 pm. Those who prefer may make donations in Al’s name to the charity of your choice. Services will conclude with burial in St. Michael Cemetery in Boston.
