Giovanni Crognale, of Malden, formerly of Boston’s North End died peacefully, with his loving wife at his side, in the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 75.
Born and raised in Introdacqua, L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy, he was the son of the late Gabrielle and Maria Domenica (Romagnoli) Crognale. Giovanni came to the United States as a young man of 19. He later returned to Italy to marry his wife of 49 years, Carmela. The couple came to the US in 1963 where they settled in Boston’s North End to raise their family. They later resettled to Malden. A hard working man, Giovanni worked as a bricklayer with Local # 3 for 54 years. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed the company of a large circle of friends.
In addition to his beloved wife Carmela (Federico), he was a devoted father to Maria Domenica Crognale and her husband Antonio of Florence, Italy, and Richie Crognale of Malden. He was a loving grandfather to Alberto. The dear brother of Cleto of Newtonville and his late wife Adelia, Carlo and his wife Linda of Medford and Loretta of Italy and her late husband Giuseppe, Giovanni leaves many dear nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, June 26th at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at the funeral home Monday from 4 thru 8 PM. Services will conclude with entombment at Woodlawn Community Mausoleum, Everett.
