Obituary

Rev. Joe Hancock, 52, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died May 2, 2004 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Eastside Holiness Baptist Church, Fitzgerald, with Rev. James Hubbard and Rev. Kenneth Mathews officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Rev. Hancock was born November 22, 1951 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late James T. “Bo” Hancock, Jr. and Bessie Harden Hancock. He lived in the community most of his life and was a former resident of Albany, GA and Folkston, NC. He was a Rural Mail Carrier for the Rebecca mail route and a former employee of Lowell Packing Company, Georgia Display, United Farm Tools and Mobley Sausage Company. He was the Pastor at Franklin Holiness Baptist Church in Douglas. Rev. Hancock served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Eastside Holiness Baptist Church, Fitzgerald.

Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife: Bonnie G. Hancock, Fitzgerald; two daughters: Tabitha Hancock and Tonja MacNamara, both of Fitzgerald; one son: Joseph W. “Jody” Hancock, Jr., Nashville, GA; one grandson: James Michael MacNamara, Fitzgerald; three sisters: Becky Powell, Fitzgerald, Jean Morris, Douglas and Shelia Butrum, Chatsworth, GA; three brothers: James T. Hancock, III, Fitzgerald, John E. Hancock, Wray and Ronald D. Hancock, Rochelle. He was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Hancock.
