Patricia Anne (Cosgrove) Sullivan, 100, of Attleboro, formerly of West Hartford, CT passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Edward J. Sullivan who died on January 9, 1962.
Born in Hartford, CT on November 28, 1911, she was a dear daughter of the late Patrick A. and Anne (Daly) Cosgrove.
She attended schools in Mt. Vernon, New York, where she lived in her early years. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford, CT and the National Park College in Forest Glen, Maryland. Before becoming a legal secretary in the office of the Connecticut attorney general, she attended the former Hartford College of Law.
After marrying, she moved with her husband to Camden, Maine where he established his medical practice and they raised their family. After her husband’s death, she returned to Connecticut, and was employed as an administrative assistant to the Federal Milk Market Administrator.
Mrs. Sullivan was active in various organizations in West Hartford, including The West Hartford Music and Art Club, The West Hartford Women’s Club and The West Hartford Belles. She was a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church in West Hartford.
An avid reader well into her nineties, Mrs. Sullivan loved to play bridge and was keenly interested in politics and current events. However, her greatest interest and joy by far was her adoring family, all of whom will miss her immeasurably.
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her devoted daughter and best friend Anne Sullivan Dissinger of Mansfield, MA. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Edward J. Sullivan, Jr. who died on September 12, 1984. She was the loving sister of the late Attorney James D. Cosgrove, Attorney Richard M. Cosgrove and Edward J. Cosgrove. She was also predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, William C. Dissinger, who died on May 8, 2012.
In addition to her daughter, she leaves four cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Dissinger Pratt and her husband John S. Pratt of Attleboro, MA, Kristin Marie Dissinger of Portland, OR, Megan Sullivan Holsinger and her husband Ronald C. Holsinger of Concord, MA and Edward J. Sullivan, III of Concord, MA. She also leaves four beloved great grandchildren, Julia Grace Pratt, Melanie Rose Pratt, Tyler William Pratt and Grace Marion Holsinger, and 19 cherished nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 26th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Following the committal services, all are invited back to a reception, which will be held at the Rose Garden, at St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
Pat’s family wishes to thank the wonderful second floor nurses and staff at Madonna Manor Nursing Home, as well as the staff at Christopher Heights Assisted Living, for their compassionate care during the past few years.
