Donald O. Drew, age 86, of Brockton died June 20, 2012 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital following a period of failing health. Don is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen (Merrill) Drew. A lifelong resident of Brockton, he was the son of the late Hubert L. and Clara (Kratzsch) Drew. Don was a 1945 graduate of Brockton High School and attended Boston Teachers College. He was a Navy Air Corps WWII veteran. He was a cabinet making teacher at the Brockton Trade School, which became South Easton Vocational Regional Technical School. During his teaching years, he started and coached intramural programs. For 33 years he enjoyed summers at Grindell’s in Dennisport, where he enjoyed golf, swimming and sailing his sunfish. He was a member of Harwichport Golf Course and skated for the “Old Timers League” into his 50’s.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Donna M. Roesler and her husband Andy of Blackwood, NJ, Donald M. Drew and his wife Jayne of Boca Raton, FL and Diana Drew McCulloch and her husband Steven of Franklin, MA. Loving “Grampie” of Martin, Andrew and Ashley Weisse, Stephanie McCulloch and Noah Drew.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday 8:30-9:30am. A Funeral Service will be held at 9:30am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 11am.
