Paul H. Bernner, Sr., 77

Dateline: Norton, MA

Paul H. Bernner, Sr., 77, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathryn A. (Mayo) Bernner who died on December 28, 2010.
Born in Boston, MA on March 21, 1935, he was a son of the late Hermann C. and Elsie G. (Fuller) Bernner.
Paul grew up in the West Roxbury section of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools. During the Korean War, he faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, prior to being honorably discharged on November 15, 1955 with the rank of Private First Class.
Mr. Bernner was a retired mold maker having worked at Spoontiques, Inc. in Stoughton ,where he was employed for over 15 years before retiring in 2009.
A resident of Norton for the past 5 years, he had formerly made his home in Mansfield for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
One of Paul’s greatest passions was reading. He and his late wife Kathryn spent many happy times taking in the beauty and tranquility of the Cape Cod Canal. He also enjoyed sitting down to a “good meal“.
He is survived by his devoted children: Paul H. Bernner, Jr. of Stoughton, Susan A. Rainville and her husband Richard of Rockport, Maine and Karen M. Anderson and her husband Mark of Norton. He was the brother of the late David C. Bernner and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Burke, Michael, Amanda and Eliza Rainville and Christopher, Joseph and Emily Anderson as well as many nieces, nephews and his best friend Bob Stoops of Attleboro.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday June 23rd at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visitation will be held on Saturday morning prior to services beginning at 8:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Massachusetts Literacy Foundation, 70 Fargo Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02210. ATTN: Carol Anne Conroy.
