Helen M. Carter, 79 of Derry, NH, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 in her home. Mrs. Carter was born in Boston, MA on December 13, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Anna (Conlon) Cyrus. She was a resident of Derry for the past eight years. She had lived in Londonderry for many years before retiring to Stark, FL. She was employed as a shoeworker for Klev-Bro Shoe Co. in Derry for 40 years. She was a life member of the VFW Post #1617 Ladies Auxiliary in Derry and a past member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post #9 Ladies Auxiliary in Derry. She was also a member of the Senior Friends in Derry and was an avid Bingo player.
She is survived by one son, Albion J. Carter Jr. and his wife Pat of Manchester, NH, four daughters, Lillian Cassidy and her husband James of Derry, Priscilla Wiggin and her husband Paul of Chester, NH, Margaret Linton and her husband Larry of Orange Park, FL, Muriel Leighton and her husband Owen of Groveton, NH, 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two brothers, William Cyrus Jr. of Weymouth, MA, Leo Cyrus of Cambridge, MA, one sister, Lillian Landry of Pelham, NH, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albion "Whispering" Carter Sr. who died in 1991.
A liturgy of the word will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 5th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial will follow in the Lyndon Center Cemetery in Lyndon, VT. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.
