Obituary

Mary C. (Powers) Sullivan, 76, of Worcester died Wednesday, June 13th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center-University Campus from a stroke. Her husband of 41 years, Joseph W. Sullivan died in 1999. She leaves two sons, Joseph W. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Worcester; Jamie Sullivan and his husband, Jim Capuzziello of Worcester; three daughters, Mary Sullivan Holden and her husband, Edward of Littleton, CO, Cheryl Dextradeur and her husband, Scott of Sutton and Eileen Smith and her husband, Tom of Northbridge; a brother, James Powers; a sister, Grace Sacromona of Plainville; 14 grandchildren, Megan Naples and her husband, Christopher, Greg, Juliann and Kristina Sullivan, Eddie, CJ and Paul Holden, Eric, Craig and Sean Dextradeur, Andrew and Anthony Sullivan and Elli and TJ Smith; a great granddaughter Lillian Naples; and many special friends that were so dear to her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of James and Grace (Brosnihan) Powers. Mary worked for the Worcester Public Schools for 35 years and was a Core Chairperson in Special Education. She also worked in the Webster Public Schools for 8 years as a part time LD Teacher. Mary graduated in 1957 from Worcester State College where she also earned a Masters Degree in Special Education. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a beloved school teacher and children’s advocate for the many children she assisted. Her career was a labor of love. She enjoyed reading, bowling, shopping and playing cards. She espically enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Her funeral is Saturday, June 16th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, June, 15th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
