Alice T. Coons, age 94 of Clarksville, TN, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Uffleman Estates.
She was born on September 8, 1917 in Southside, TN to the late Orville Trotter and Lillian Scott Trotter. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Jack Adkins, Jr. and a grandchild, Scott Uffleman.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 1 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Rev. Kyle Harris officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Alice was a teacher for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for thirty years. In 1973, she was the recipient of a Fullbright Grant to spend three months in India, studying at the University of Bangolore. She was selected with sixteen educators in the State of Tennessee, three classroom teachers, and thirteen supervisors and State Department Educators, while there after five weeks at the University, they traveled over India and other countries, including Iran, Afghanistan, and European countries. From that experience, she decided to travel and visit fourty-one countries on freight liners.
Of her first marriage to Jack Adkins, one child survives, Suzanne Uffleman. On May 18, 1974, she married Frank Rudolph, who died on February 14, 1975 a 4-H Club sweetheart. In 1981, she married William Coons of New Orleans, LA who died in 1989. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Betsy Fernandez, Jay Adkins and Bryant Adkins, and seven great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.
