Obituary

Catlin, Anthony Beebe 75, of Weston, formerly of Cohasset, MA and Marco Island, FL, died June 9, 2012. He was a loving husband to Shifi Catlin (1950-2010) for nearly 25 years. He is survived by 2 siblings: sister Dianne Gardiner of Palo Alto, CA and Robert M. Catlin III of Spring Island, SC; 4 children: Anthony B. Catlin Jr. of Natick, Wendy C.R. Catlin and partner Margaret Costello of Newton, Leslie Catlin Carr and husband Michael of Bellingham, and Jessica Catlin of Cambridge; and 7 grandchildren: Rachel and Tucker Catlin of Natick, Michael and Alison Costello of Newton, and Alexander, Ethan, and Ella Carr of Bellingham.

He graduated from Dexter School in 1954, from the Hill School in 1955, and from Yale University in 1960 with a BA in Philosophy and a minor in Italian. He then joined the Navy and served with CINCLANTFLT in Norfolk, VA as a naval air intelligence officer. His intelligence group was instrumental in spotting the missiles in Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. He then went on to civilian life and worked for IBM, Keane and, in later years, worked as an independent computer consultant. A lifelong dog lover, Tony was a familiar sight over the years as he walked his Labradors around Lake Waban. He also had a penchant for Dixieland jazz, oftentimes playing the trumpet as he listened. He was an avid golfer and member of The Country Club in Brookline for many years. He was Tiger Woods’ scorekeeper when TCC hosted the Ryder Cup in 1999. He was also an excellent amateur woodworker. Tony loved spending summers at the family beach house at Sandy Cove in Cohasset and could often be found enjoying a day out exploring on the water or relaxing on the beach. Tony valued family above all else and cherished hosting everyone for holidays at his home. He had an incredible zest for life and was an amazing father. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all those left behind.
