Eugene A. McElroy, Jr.,87, of Jackson Flat Road, Scituate passed as he lived, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday at Riverview Nursing Home in Coventry. He was the husband of Alice L. (Boisvert) McElroy. They were married for 63 years.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Eugene A. Sr. and Mary (Mahoney) McElroy. He lived in Scituate for sixty years. Mr. McElroy was a WWII Navy veteran. He had been a sales representative for 42 years for the former Costello Brothers and the E. T. Johnson Corp retiring in 1991. He was a past Grand Knight Knights of Columbus Council #30, a member of the original Scituate Police Assn. and a member of the FOP #30. He was a member of the American Legion West Warwick Post, member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, past president and Rescue Captain of Hope Jackson Fire Dept. in Scituate and a past charter member of Pawtuxet River Authority.
He is also survived by a son, Eugene A. McElroy and his wife Carol of Foster and a daughter, Gail Shea and her husband Mike of Glocester,eight grandchildren, Ian, Justin, Eric, John and Lauren Shea, Hilary Coons and Alison Daigle and seven great grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late Corey Shea and brother of the late Anne M. Kelly and Sr. Mary Bernard.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:45am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church, 48 Highland St., West Warwick. Burial with military honors in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.Visitation Tuesday 5-7 PM.
