John P. Dekiaviczus, 90, of Methuen, formerly of South Lawrence, died peacefully Monday, June 4, 2012 at Academy Manor in Andover.
John , son of the late William Dikiaviczus and Mary(Viskauskas) Dikiaviczus, was born in Lawrence on July 24, 1921 and lived here most of his life. John was educated in Lawrence schools and went on to serve our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the 405th Infantry Regiment and the 102nd Army division as a sniper. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1946.
Prior to his retirement, John was employed with the former Arlington Mills in Lawrence and the Lawrence Packing Co. A longtime communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lawrence, John also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and caring for his beloved wife, Carmela R. (Sciacca) Dekiaviczus, who died in 2005
John will be sadly missed by his daughter, Marie P. Aliano; two grandchildren, Paul J. Aliano, III and Paula Marie Aliano and several nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Paul J. Aliano, Jr. , a Lieutenant Fire Fighter in the City of Lawrence.
Family and friends will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 5-8 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, 118 South Broadway, Lawrence on Friday, June 8,2 012 at 11 AM. Following committal prayers and Military Honors, John will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Carmela in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
