
DUDLEY – Lawrence J. Plaza, 84, of Dudley, died Saturday, June 2, 2012 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, with his family at his side.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Priscilla M. (Anctil) Plaza; 3 children, Susan M. Schofield and her husband Gerald “Jerry” of Woodstock, CT, James R. Plaza and his wife Pamela of Putnam, CT and Gail A. Alexander of Dudley; 3 grandchildren, Chad Schofield and his wife Amy of Mashpee, Stacey Schofield of Meriden, CT and Travis Alexander and his wife Erica of Thompson, CT; 3 step grandchildren, Robert Lagrander and his wife Kelly of Shrewsbury, Lori Hallin and her husband Brad of Arizona, and Steven Snay and his wife Linda of Leominster; a brother, Carl Plaza of Moultrie, GA; a step-sister, Marcia Bachand of Dudley; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Plaza in 2007 and by 2 brothers, George and Ralph Plaza.
He was born in Dudley, a son of Stanley and Gladys (Budrow) Plaza and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1945.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Plaza first worked as a lens maker at Webster Lens Company and then as a finisher at American Standard in Plainfield, CT for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Saint Louis Church in Webster. He was a fireman for the Dudley Fire Dept. for many years. He also enjoyed telling jokes.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 11:00 AM in Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. Burial will be in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Webster. A calling period will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 6, in the funeral home.
