Obituary

Alan A. Miller, 40, of Yulee passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, June 1, 2012. He was born in Providence, R.I. and moved to the Fernandina Beach-Yulee, FL area in 1989 from East Greenwich, R.I.

Alan was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1990 and a 1995 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a BA in Marketing. Previously Alan worked for Nabisco for 10 years. For the past four years Alan has been employed by Acosta (a worldwide marketing company) as a space technologist. He had just recently been promoted to a new position as a data report specialist.

He was a devoted son, an extraordinary brother, and a true animal lover. Alan and his dog, Thor, spent a lot of time at the local Nassau Humane Society Dog Park where they both had many friends. Alan’s playful personality, sharp wit, brilliant memory, thoughtfulness, kind heart, and beautiful smile will be remembered always.

Alan is survived by his parents, James S. and Donna M. Miller of Fernandina, FL; his brothers, John A. and James D. Miller of Alexandria, VA; his grandmother, Shirley M. Miller of Deland, FL; his uncle, Steven D. Miller of Duluth, GA; and his aunt Susan (Bill) Wakelin of Deland, FL. Other survivors include his cousins, Brent Wakelin and Lisa Thomas of Deland, FL; godparents, John and Faye Knight of Brooklyn, CT; and long-time family friend, Barbara LaRose of Cranston, RI; and numerous friends. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home. The Reverend Mary K. Moore of New Vision Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be at the family cemetery in North Smithfield, R.I.
