Obituary

Richard S. Massey, Sr., 77, of Port St. Lucie, FL died Wednesday, May 30th in his home. He leaves his wife of 9 years, Shirley A. (Leach) Massey; three sons, Richard S. Massey, Jr. and his wife, Eleanor of West Point, VA, Darryl S. Massey of Worcester and Jeffrey R. Massey of Danielson, CT; two daughters, Robin E. Groh of Woodstock, CT and Jennifer J. Kimball and her husband, George of Waltham; a sister, Lorraine Salem of Walnut, CA; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 nephews and 2 nieces. He also leaves Shirley’s three children, Cathleen and Scott Carson, Colleen and Don Ramsdell and John McKeown; 2 grandchildren, Ashley and Cathleen and her three great grandchildren, Kyle, Rose and Domonic. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly A. (Patterson) Massey in 2002.
Mr. Massey was born in Worcester the son of Haven R. and Agnes (Moynihan) Massey. He graduated in 1953 from Shrewsbury High School and from Worcester Junior College in 1962. Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. Mr. Massey worked at Thermo-Electron in Auburn for 15 years, retiring in 1999. He previously worked at David Gessner Corporation for 8 years and Copps Engineering for 11 years.
He was the former President of the Northeast Native American Institute and a member of Nipmuc National Tribal Council in Sutton. Richard was a member of St. Lucie Roman Catholic Church, the Sons of Union Veterans Civil War and American Legion Post #318 in Port St. Lucie. He enjoyed travelling.
The funeral is on Wednesday, June 6th with a service at 1:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA. Burial will be private in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson, CT at a later date. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 6th from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Nipmuc National Tribal Council, 25 Main Street, South Grafton, MA 01560.
