Obituary

Jessie Mae Rogers Mathis, 90, of Tifton, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Victory Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Eidson and Pastor Brian Belflower will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Melvin Mathis, Neal Mathis, P. H. Danforth, Johnny Rutland, Colonel Bill Rippy, Lee Waldrop, and Darrell Danforth will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ruth Sunday school class at Victory Baptist Church, John and Geneva Tompkins and Mildred Flippo. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 4, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Mathis was born on May 16, 1922 in Tift County and was the daughter of Millard Rogers and Annie Bell Marchant Rogers, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Cyrus Mathis; and one sister, Mildred Rogers Harrell. She was retired from the Tift County School System and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She loved Braves baseball.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Van Belflower of Tifton, Sara Jean and Terry Mayne of Jacksonville, Florida and Linda and David Carr of Warner Robins; one sister-in-law, Retha Mathis Smith of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Susan Belflower, Brian and Kristy Belflower, Joe Mayne, Kelli and Jared Strickland and Laura Carr; and eight great-grandchildren, Josh Belflower, John Thomas Belflower, Jacob Mayne, Haley Mayne, Rachel Mayne, Abby Mayne, Andrew Mayne and Jackson Strickland.
