Santo F. “Sam” Durso, a long-time Medford resident died Wednesday morning at the Blaire House of Tewksbury. He was 100 years old.
Sam was born and raised in Boston’s West End, the son of the late Bartolo and Antonina Durso. In his younger years Sam operated his own produce shop called “Sam the Fruit Man”. He later closed his shop and worked as a regional supervisor for A & P Supermarkets, until he retired. A member of the Medford Elks Lodge, Sam was devoted to his family and especially to his beloved wife Martha with whom he shared 78 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife Martha (Freni) Durso, Sam leaves, his devoted children: Robert Durso and his wife Eileen of Whitman, Annette Iascone and her husband Michael of Tewksbury. He was a loving grandfather to Michael, Chris, Jeannine, Rob, Margaret and a loving great-grandfather to Julia, Michael, Lily, Chris, Carly, Emily, Paige, Sam, Jonathan and Mitchell. He also leaves his sister Carmelina Durso of Medford.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Sunday, June 3rd from 4 through 8 PM and again on Monday June 4th, at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
