Obituary

WEBSTER – Muriel E. (DeWitte) Babcock, age 86, of 153 Sutton Road, died Monday, April 26, in Saint Vincent Hospital. Her husband, Henry Willis Babcock, Sr, died in 1998.

She leaves 3 sons, Henry Willis “Pat” Babcock, Jr., of Marysville, WA, Charles E. Babcock of Collinsville, CT and J. Jay Babcock of Thompson, CT; 2 daughters, Georgia G. Gawle of Webster and Marjorie B. Borden of Marion; 3 brothers, Clyde DeWitte of Webster, Roger DeWitte of Dudley, and Ray DeWitte of Portland, TN; 10 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Norman DeWitte of Oregon and a sister, Elva Huckins of Florida.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Urbaine E. and Georgia A. (Smith) DeWitte. She attended schools in Worcester. Mrs. Babcock was the food service supervisor at Knollwood Nursing Home in Worcester before retiring. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dudley and a member of the Dudley Grange for over 50 years.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 30, at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, Center Road, Dudley. There are no calling hours. The family suggests donations be made to either Elder Day Services of Southern Worcester County, PO Box 1497, Dudley, MA 01571 or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Southern Worcester County, PO Box 368, Webster, MA 01570. Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St., is directing arrangements.
