Mr. Edward George Corsetti, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved husband of Marie P. (Martin) Corsetti, died at his home in Medford on Monday, May 28, 2012. He was 87 years old.
Born in Glens Falls, New York, Ed was the beloved son of the late Leopold and Laura (Orsini) Corsetti. Mr. Corsetti attended Boston University and was a reporter and editor for the Hearst Papers in Boston. He was a WWII Navy veteran entering the military at Medford on May 12, 1943 and receiving his honorable discharge from Boston on December 16, 1945. While in the Navy, Mr. Corsetti worked as a signalman and was stationed aboard the USS Baxter in the South Pacific. In his spare time, Mr. Corsetti enjoyed playing poker and gardening and an avid Boston sports fan. He was also a lifelong parishoner of St. Francis Church in Medford.
Ed is survived by his loving daughters; Elaine M. and her husband William Buckley of Dracut and Anne M. and her husband James P. Brogan of Medford, cherished grandchildren; Mark and Ryan Buckley, Lisa Corsetti and Jesse and Laura Brogan, great-grandchildren; Jack Buckley, Christian Brogan and Jacob Buckley, as well as several nieces and nephews especially Don Bersacola of Ohio. He was also the devoted brother of the late Angelo, John, and Leo Corsetti and Lela Bersacola. He was pre-deceased by his sons Paul and Smokei Corsetti.
During his award winning career as an investigative reporter and city editor for the Daily Record and Sunday Herald American in Boston, the byline “Ed Corsetti”, appeared attached to many high-profile stories. Among these were the Brinks Robbery, Plymouth Mail Robbery, Boston Strangler, Sam Sheppard Murder trial and appeal as well the Joan Risch disappearance. He was considered an historical authority on these cases and was interviewed extensively for multiple documentaries.
Eddie also reported extensively on the John F. Kennedy presidential campaign and election as well as the drowning death of Mary Jo Kopechne on Chappaquiddick.
After retiring from newspaper reporting, he highly enjoyed working for the IRS as a tax examiner.
His memorial mass was celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, Friday, June 1, 2012, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Interment was private. Donations in Edward’s memory may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital, Pulmonary Department, Attn: Shawn Fitzgibbons, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114. Arrangements have ben entrusted to the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, of Medford.
