Joseph John Sottile, 91, of Peabody, MA formerly of Wilmington and Chelmsford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 27 just one month shy of his 92nd birthday. Born in 1920 to parents, Mary (Labadini) and William Sottile; Brother of the late William, Francis and his twin sister Marie. Husband of Jeane (Cunningham) Sottile.
Joe, as he was known to family and friends, was born and raised in East Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge Ridge & Latin High School and Burdett College. During the Depression he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp, also known as the CCC's. Joe also served as a Sargent in the United States Army during WWII in North Africa with the Signal Corp and was a proud member of the DAV.
After the war Joe returned home to Wilmington, MA. There he began a photographic career that spanned more than 50 years, primarily as a Regional Sales Manager for Victor Hasselblad Inc. During that time he earned many top sales awards.
Joseph met his wife of 57 years when she tried to fix him up with her best friend. Besides traveling with his wife & family on many cruises, his work was his hobby and playing poker was a close second. And like the true New Englander that he was, Joe followed every professional Boston sports team religiously. Jeane and Joe raised their children in Wilmington and Chelmsford, MA before retiring to Naples, Florida; a life dream come true for him.
Joseph is survived by his wife Jeane, daughter, Marie Zorn and her husband Christopher of Medfield, son, Martin Sottile Hassman and his husband George Hassman MD of La Canada Flintridge, CA, and four grandchildren, Eric, Keith, Ashley and Rubin.
