GLOUCESTER: John Russell Maletskos, 63, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012. He was the son of Constantine J. Maletskos and the late Mary U. (Magna) Maletskos.
Born in Boston on December 31, 1948, John had a serious congenital heart problem. However, thanks to the skilled surgeons at Children’s Hospital, Boston, he was able to live a productive life. In spite of John’s heart condition, he never complained. He was kind and caring and an inspiration to others.
A lifelong resident of Gloucester, he was a graduate of the Gloucester High School and the North Bennet Street School in Boston, where he majored in drafting. He was self-employed for many years helping people in the area by taking care of their lawns and gardens, and snow shoveling.
John was an avid sports fan and kept close attention to all the Boston teams. He enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of Lanes Cove, where he liked being near the water and boats.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his brother, George D. Maletskos of Gloucester; and his sister, Ethel M., and her husband John L. Martin of Stow, MA. He will be missed by his cousins and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2nd in the Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington St., Gloucester at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Department of Cardiology, payable to Children’s Hospital Boston and mailed to Children’s Hospital Trust, 1 Autumn St., #731, Boston, MA 02215 or online at www.childrenshospital.org/tribute.
