Obituary

VARDON C. "BILL" RYDER, age 83, a Hingham resident for 24 years, died on Tuesday, April 13th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Born in Garnerville, New York, he grew up in New Jersey and Florida. He attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT. Mr. Ryder was a United States Army veteran of World War II and served in the China-Burma-India Theatre for more than three years. He was employed as a manufacturer's representative for Sales Marketing & Service Company in Canton, a wholesale plumbing supply business, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed traveling, building model boats, and as an accomplished sailor was a familiar figure around Hingham Harbor in his catboat. An avid gardener, his flower gardens were admired by his Hingham Center neighbors.He was the husband of Barbara (Seaver) Ryder of Hingham and father of Stuart V. Ryder and his wife Kathy Kishner of Wilmette, Illinois, and grandfather of Molly Ryder.A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, May 1st at 2 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043.Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the "Called to Care" Program,c/o the Hingham Congregational Church or to the Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt St.,Hingham, MA 02043.The interment is to be private.
