Obituary

David H. Piper, 66, of Derry, NH died Tuesday May 22, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center, Derry following a brief illness. He was born on April 25, 1946 in Manchester, NH a son of the late Arnold W. and Doris A. (Holmes) Piper. Mr. Piper was a resident of Derry for 19 years, formerly stationed with the Army in numerous locations. He proudly served his country as a Combat Engineer with the US Army and retired after 25 years as a Master Sergeant. Dave was a member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post #9 in Derry serving as an integral part of the Honor Guard and also a member of the V.F.W. Post #1617. He was a member of the DAV. He had also been employed as a painter for Simpson’s Painting.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Herer and her husband David and Sandra Gagnon and her husband Brad, all of Woodbridge, VA, four grandchildren, two brothers, Robert Piper and Arnold Piper Jr., both of Goffstown, two sisters, Karen Piper of Goffstown and Virginia Achterhof of Springtown, TX, former wife Martha Donovan of Derry, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister Deborah.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday May 30, 2012 from 5 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am at St Thomas Aquinas Church, Crystal Avenue, Derry. Burial followed at 12:00pm in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #1617, 18 Railroad Ave., Derry, NH 03038.
