Obituary

Moran, Mary (Foley), 92, at Meadow Green in Waltham, MA formerly of Jamaica Plain, MA passed away on May 22, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Edward L. Foley and Josephine Kersey Foley of Dorchester where she was born and raised.

A graduate of Carney Hospital School of Nursing, with a Masters Degree in Nursing School Administration from Catholic University, her background in nursing was varied and extensive. Active in numerous professional organizations, she was a creator of the Massachusetts Disaster Nursing Manual, a participant in the Nation League for Nursing Accrediting Survey, an Instructor of Orthopedics, a Clinical Coordinator, Educational Director, and Director of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. She retired in 1986 from her role as the Director of Nursing Education and Research, Boston Department of Health and Hospitals, having spent her career of almost forty years at Boston City Hospital. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a gracious, knowledgeable and respected professional who made significant contributions to nursing education and patient care. To her family and friends her thoughtfulness was sincere and inclusive and her kindness reached out to all whose lives she gently and positively touched.

She was the beloved mother of Mary Moran Perry, mother-in-law of Thomas W. Perry, and devoted grandmother of Julia Taft Perry and Thomas Willard Perry of Watertown, MA. Her husband Thomas G. Moran predeceased her. Loving sister of the late Edward, John and William Foley. She is survived by her loving sister, Catherine Foley McInnis of Dedham, MA and also by numerous nieces and nephews; Jean Lawrence and her husband Henry Lawrence of Belchertown, MA, William McInnis and his wife Dorothy McInnis of Merrimack, NH, Mary Dolabany and her husband Charlie Dolabany of Norwood, MA and their three children, Katherine Sloan and her husband David Sloan of Medfield, MA and their three children, John F. McInnis of Dedham, MA, Edward McInnis and his wife Annette of Chester NH and their three children, Paul McInnis and his wife Kelly McInnis of Franklin, MA and their three children, and Josephine Greene and her husband, Michael Green of Amherst, NH and their four children. Beloved aunt of the late James McInnis and his son. Also survived by special friends Peter and Joanne Vitello of Jamaica Plain.


Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home on Friday May 25, at 8:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in The Holy Name Church at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours in the funeral home on Thursday May 24, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.

Interment Holyhood Cemetery.
