Nancy E. Coombes
Devoted wife, mother , grandmother and friend
TEWKSBURY: Nancy E. (Davis) Coombes, age 77, recently of Chelmsford , a former longtime resident of Andover and Tewksbury, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Lowell General Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Coombes, who passed away on September 22, 2002.
Born in Lowell on August 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Warren A. Davis and the late Elizabeth (Copley) Davis. Nancy was also the sister of the late Richard W. "Butch" Davis.
Nancy was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury Public Schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School.
Following her marriage, Nancy devoted her life to raising her two children and providing a loving home for her family.
In later years, Nancy volunteered her time by serving as an aid in the Andover Public Schools, and offering assistance to the Andover Parkinson's Disease Support Group and Andover Thrift Store.
She was a member of Christ Church of Andover, where she served as a member of the Altar Guild, the Flower Committee, and assisted with Pastoral Care.
Nancy enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, bird watching, traveling to Nantucket and Europe with her late husband, and being a cheerleader for her four grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by one son, Jamie D. Coombes and his wife Susan of Chelmsford; one daughter, Wendy E. Coombes Hallowell and her husband Thomas of Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren, Joshua M. and Jacob W. Coombes of Chelmsford and Sarah E. Hallowell of Randolph, NJ and Carly E. Hallowell of Lancaster, PA; a sister-in-law, Shy Davis of Newburyport; also nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 23, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, at 10 a.m., at the Christ Church, 33 Central St., Andover. There will not be a procession from the funeral home. Kindly proceed directly to the church.
