Obituary

WORCESTER-Rose M. (Washwell) Clair, 76, of 371 Chandler Street, died Sunday, April 25th in St. Vincent Hospital. Her husband of over 50 years, Carl R. Clair died in 2001. She leaves 3 sons, Richard C. Clair of Cincinnati, OH, Robert P. Clair with whom she lived and James A. and his wife Jennifer O. Clair of China, ME; 2 daughters, Elizabeth A. Clair of North Chelmsford and Kathleen E. Clair of Lawrence; a sister, Ellen Peck of Shrewsbury; 6 grandchildren, including Allison and Andrea Clair both of China, ME; several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother John Washwell and a sister, Joan Morse.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of Charles and Mary (Chapulis) Washwell and graduated from Commerce High School. Mrs. Clair was employed at the former Shawmut Bank as administrative officer of the loan department for 22 years, retiring in 1991. She was an active volunteer in all of her children’s activities, a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and past president of the Worcester Police Wives Association. She enjoyed ceramics, reading mystery novels, crossword puzzles and was an avid collector and hobbyist.

The funeral is Wednesday, April 28th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial is in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 27th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to any organization which plants trees in the city of Worcester or to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
