NEW BEDFORD -- Edward M. Winterbottom, 89, of New Bedford died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Sacred Heart Home.
A lifelong New Bedford resident, the son of the late Edward and Rose Main Winterbottom, he lived 40 years on County Street until recently moving to the nursing home.
Mr. Winterbottom was employed by Sears for 25 years. He was a machine operator at Sowle Mills and a bartender at the Ambassador Lounge and Hilltop Lounge.
He served in the Army infantry in Germany during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Distinguished Service Cross.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Phoenix Post 2892, Fairhaven.
He enjoyed hunting in Maine.
He was the brother of the late Eleanor R. Winterbottom and James E. Winterbottom.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday April 26, 2004 in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., with burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Relatives and friends will be received within the hour prior to his service.
