Larry G. Swords, 92, of Claremore, OK (formerly of Fitzgerald) died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Claremore, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 19, at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Randy Holt officiating. Military honors will be rendered by Fitzgerald High School JROTC.
Mr. Swords was born February 20, 1920 in Fitzgerald to the late Larry G. and Lottie Mae Bowers Swords. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army serving during WW II and Korea. After his retirement from the Army, he retired from the Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins before moving back to Fitzgerald. Mr. Swords was employed by the Ben Hill County Board of Education as Supply Officer for the JROTC at Fitzgerald High School before moving to Oklahoma.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda S. Zinnecker of Broken Arrow, OK and Janice Swords & Alvin Dorn of Fitzgerald; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sister, Aubrey S. Prescott of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Willingham Swords, two brothers, Harry Swords and Cecil Swords and a son-in-law, Melvin Zinnecker.
