Zola Messick Powell, age 79 of Clarksville, Tennessee, died May 15, 2012. She was born October 8, 1932 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, daughter of the late Rev. Frank Messick and Idell Brandon Messick. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse and Bobby Messick and Carl Finley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM at Living Hope Baptist Church on Friday May 18, 2012 with Dr. John David Laida, Rev. Mike Madewell and Rev. Bill Morris officiating. Burial will be in Little Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home and Friday, May 18, 2012 from 10 AM until the hour of the service at Living Hope Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be her nephews:John(Bubba),Trent, Brian and Jason Messick, Tim Giles, Ricky Finley, Chris Binkley and Troy Bender. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class Family.
Zola was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was retired from Clarksville Montgomery County School System – where she worked at East Montgomery School for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family, egg and gourd decorating, and many crafts.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years Winfred Powell, and three children: Wayne (Renee) Powell, David (Becky) Powell, and Pam (Mat) Smiley. five grandchildren: Jordan, Janzen and Joel Powell, Travis Powell and Arya Smiley. Two brothers: John (Mary) Messick, Augusta, GA, Jerry (Brenda) Messick, Murfreesboro, TN and 2 sisters: Peggy (Bob) Bender, Hancesville, AL, Robbye (J.T.) Ivie, Hancesville, AL and sister-in-law, Martha Messick, Murfreesboro, TN.
