Obituary

William David Morgan, age 89, of Charleston, MS died Monday, May 14, 2012 at University Hospital in Jackson, MS. Born August 22, 1922 in Tallahatchie County to the late Benjamin Charles and Harriett Adaline McNulty Morgan, he grew up in Charleston and attended MS State University. He left the university to join the US Army Air Corp during WWII where he trained to become a pilot and flew a B24 Bomber. When the war ended, he returned home and was self employed as a bridge builder and contractor. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church, served on the Tallahatchie County School Board, served as a city commissioner for several years in Charleston, and was affectionately known as “Dandy” by his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 12:30 until 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Charleston. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with Bro. Tommy Stevenson officiating. Interment will be at the Charleston City Cemetery with Will Reynolds, Jimmy Dale Fly, Jr., Upton Reynolds, Daniel Reynolds, Seburn Brasher, Michael Holman, and William Brewer serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lillian Safley Reynolds Morgan, of Charleston, MS; a daughter, Harriett Morgan Hodges (Bill) of Lebannon, TN; two step-sons, Tommy Reynolds (Liz) of Water Valley, MS and Eddie Reynolds (Ann) of Charleston, MS; a sister, Dorothy Ray of Hot Springs Village, AR; and seven grandchildren, Allison Black, Rebecca Reynolds, Upton Reynolds, Daniel Reynolds, Jimmy Dale Fly, Jr., Leanna Reynolds, and Will Reynolds.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son in 1971, William “Billy” David Morgan, Jr.; two sisters, Birdie Morgan and Kathleen Sheffield; and one brother, Coley Morgan.
