Maria de Lourdes Simoes, age 90 of Assonet, passed away May 10, 2012 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of 61 years of Jaime J. “Saldanha” Simoes. Born in Capelas, São Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Joáo Rego Oliveira and Maria Das Neves (Medeiros) Oliveira. Prior to retiring in 1985, Mrs. Simoes worked for SanToro Mfg. as a seamstress. Her hobbies were crocheting and reading and she was an avid Red Sox fan and a wonderful cook. She was a parishioner of St. Michael Church. Maria was an extremely dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her husband of Assonet, she is survived by two sons: Carlos Simoes of Dighton (wife Manuela) and John Simoes of Assonet (wife Lori); four grandchildren: Bernadette, Ricardo, Kathleen and James; two great grandchildren: Nathan and Zachary and several nieces & nephews. She was sister of the late Humberto and Agostinho Do Rego Oliveira.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River MONDAY at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Assonet Burial Grounds. Calling hours on SUNDAY 5:00-8:00 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
