Mrs. Verna D. (Duest) Scribner, age 92, died at home, Thursday May 10, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born in Watertown, Verna was the devoted daughter of the late Lydia (MacNaughton) and Mark Duest.
Verna attended Watertown schools and graduated from Watertown High School. She then attended the Beauty Academy of New York. She worked as a Function Manager with Sheraton Hotels of Lexington and Boston. Verna enjoyed her summers in Marshfield and donating her time with the Woburn Senior Center, and the Tidd House of Woburn.
Verna lived in Lexington then moved to Delray Beach, FL where she spent 30 years. In 2005, Verna moved to Woburn to live with her beloved niece Nancy Kerrigan and her husband Peter Kerrigan. Verna was very active with the Senior Singers here in Woburn. In her spare time Verna enjoyed Arts, crafts and crocheting.
Verna was the beloved wife of the late Charles P. Scribner. Devoted mother of the late Cheryl E. Scribner. Sister of Lydia DeFerro of New Jersey, and the late Lloyd Duest, Virginia Coombs, Frank Duest, Mark Duest, and Richard Duest. Loving Aunt of Nancy Kerrigan and her husband Peter of Woburn, Patricia Mullins of New Jersey, Jean DeBellas and her husband Anthony of FL, Donna Ridgeway and her husband John of New Jersey, Paul Duest and his wife Lillian of Watertown, Deborah LaVache and her husband Edward of Watertown, Joanne Magsam and her husband George of Woburn, Claire Gazetti and her husband Dave of FL, Richard Duest and his wife Claire of MA, Deria Duest of FL, Carol Sarian and her husband Haig of Lexington and Donna Gregory of Wareham.
A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery, Bedford St. Lexington on Tuesday May 15th at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Monday May 14th from 3 to 6PM.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Verna's name to Hallmark Health Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 178 Savin St., Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148.
