Obituary

Mr. John A. DeVirgilio, 92, of Medford formerly of Everett, died Monday, May 7, at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Mary L. (Accardi) with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.
Born in Boston the son of the late Frances (Cammarata) and Antonio DeVirgilio, He was raised in the Roslidale section of Boston. As a young man he met and later married his late wife Maryand settled in Everett, where they raised their family and lived for over fifty years until they moved to Medford.
A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he was recognized as a pioneer in the imported food business and brought his small company from its roots in Boston, to New England's largest distributor of Italian food products now located in Medford. Although work was everything, he always found time enjoy and nurture his family and in particular his grandchildren.
He is survived by Two Daughters Marie Cooke and her husband Richard of Wakefield, Joanne Jaffe and her husband Haskell of Winthrop, Two sons Anthony DeVirgilio and his wife Bernadette of Medford, John DeVirgilio and his wife Beverly of Stoneham. Also seven loving grandchildren and four loving great grandchildren.
His funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford, on Saturday, May 12, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. It has been requested that Expressions of sympathy be sent in John's memory to the Leonard Florence Center for Living, 165 Captains Row, Chelsea, MA 02150
