MAHONEY, ROBERT F. of Needham died May 8th at BID Glover Hospital after a brief illness.
Beloved husband of the late Mary (Tighe) Mahoney.
Loving father of Kevin J. Mahoney and his partner Osvail Dias of West Roxbury; Ellen Mahoney and her husband Richard Pierce of Lowell; Mary-Julie Castro Castellanos and her husband Carlos of Shirley; Patricia M. Mackoff and her husband Mitchell of Hopkinton; Devoted friend of Janice E. Mahoney; Brother-in-law of Atty. Alfred J. Tighe and his wife Vivian of Rockville, Maryland.
Proud grandfather of Michael, Sean, Jason, Padraic, Brendan, Robinson, Roberto, Devin, Carolyn and Brian.
A World War II veteran, Bob, during his work career, was Distribution Manager for Cherry and Webb, Vice President of Conrad and Chandler, and Manager of Filene's in Chestnut Hill; he also served in numerous leadership roles at St Joseph's Church and the American International College (AIC) Alumni Association (Class of 1943).
Bob celebrated his 90th birthday with 100 friends and relatives at the end of January. He will long be remembered for his volunteer work at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley (for which he won the 2006 VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD from the MA Aging Services Administration); his enthusiastic participation in the Needham Senior Walking Group, and his fine singing voice.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. (Exit 19B off 128) NEEDHAM Saturday at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday from 3-8PM. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the Elizabeth Seton Residence, 125 Oakland Street Wellesley, MA 02481.
