Obituary

Robert H. Carlsen, Jr., 66, of New Bedford died Sunday May 6, 2012 suddenly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Maureen A. (Telford) Carlsen.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Robert H. and Hazel (Ward) Carlsen, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mr. Carlsen was employed as a quality assurance representative for the Department of Defense.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 166 in Fairhaven, the Disabled American Veterans of Middleboro, and the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, McMahon Council.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Michael J. Sears and Lynne E. Sears, both of New Bedford; two brothers, Daniel Carlsen of Rochester and Nicholas Carlsen of New Bedford; two sisters, Bonnie Clark and Robin Cote, both of Fairhaven; a granddaughter, Melissa M. Sears of Charlotte, NC; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Ozzy.

He was the brother of the late Jerome Carlsen.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
