Paula Charleen Lea Draper, 73, of Wellfleet died peacefully Monday, April 30 at McCarthy Hospice Care Center, East Sandwich, surrounded by family.
She grew up in Arlington and Medford, attended University of Massachusetts at Amherst and was graduated from Framingham State College with a degree in education. She also attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. She was a resident artist in Wellfleet, a vibrant member of the community and a free spirit. She loved nature and the outdoors, traveling, dancing and was a strong advocate of peace and women’s rights. Paula was a Quaker.
She is survived by daughter Beth Draper of Brewster, and sons Eric Draper and wife Michelle of Hudson, Ohio, and Daniel Draper and wife Colleen of Stoneham, eight grandchildren, Rachael, Samuel, Seth, Gabriel, Madeleine, Charles, Corinne and Sophia, and brother Richard Short and wife Ronni Schnell of Brookline, and sisters Pamela Lima and husband Frank of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Roberta Blades and husband Brian of Concord, NH, as well as many (grand) nieces and nephews and close friends. Paula was the daughter of the late Mildred V. (Mossman) Short and Francis L. Flanagan.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12th, 3:30 pm at Preservation Hall, 335 Main St. Wellfleet, followed by a potluck celebration. A second memorial service and burial will be held on Friday, June 1st, 1:00 pm at Framingham Friends Meeting, 841 Edmonds Rd., Framingham.
