Sarah Mahala Strange, 95, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, April 23, 2004, in Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County, Georgia, with Rev. Richard Soper and Rev. Jim Osbourn officiating. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla
Mrs. Strange was born September 15, 1908, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Oliver V. and Eunnie Melissa Harper Purvis. She lived in Irwin County all of her life. Mrs. Strange retired in 1971 from General Telephone Company as the Division Traffic Superintendent. She was a member of Ocilla United Methodist Church, a former member of the Ocilla Garden Club and a member of the General Telephone Company Retiree Club. Mrs. Strange was an accomplished porcelain and china painter.
Mrs. Strange is survived by one daughter: Martha M. Strange, Ocilla; one son and daughter-in-law: Virgil J. and Elizabeth Strange, Atlanta Beach, FL; two grandchildren: Cynthia S. Hagist, Atlantic Beach, FL and Kristina Schurer, Jacksonville Beach, FL; three great grandchildren: Daniel Cobb, Kaylee Schurer and Kelsey Schurer. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Strange, one sister, Gussie P. Ashley and three brothers, Marshall, Val Gene and Henry Purvis.
