Obituary

HAVERHILL: Margaret C. “Peg” (Dowling) Maroney, 96, died on Sunday, April 29, 2012. She was the wife of the late Francis H. Maroney with whom she was married to for thirty one years until his death in 1971. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, she most recently has resided at Haverhill Crossings.
Born in Haverhill on August 9, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Helen (Jackson) Dowling. She attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1933. Peg was a member of St. James Parish for many years and in the late 1960’s became a member of the Sacred Hearts Parish in Bradford. Her devotion to her catholic faith was a constant throughout her lifetime. Peg was a member of the Guild of the Infant Savior and the St. James Women’s Circle. She was a devoted volunteer, managing the gift shop at the former Hale Hospital now Merrimack Valley Hospital for forty years until her retirement at the age of 92. Peg was proud of being a mother and a homemaker staying at home to raise her four children. In her spare time she liked to sew, knit and especially liked to bake cookies of all types for her family and friends.
Peg is survived by her four children, Margaret E. Kayser of Alton Bay, NH, James A. Maroney and his wife, Deborah of Atkinson, NH, Mary F. Maroney and her husband, “Bud” Gay of Harpswell, ME and Anne M. Young of Dover, NH, a granddaughter, Laura A. (Maroney) Finocchiaro and her husband, John of Milford, NH, three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Ben and Kelsey Finocchiaro. She leaves behind several nephews and a niece, their spouses and their children. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Helen Ryan and Mary Hardiman, and her son-in-law, Robert Young.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in the Sacred Hearts Church, S. Main Street, Bradford at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friend are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Attn: Michael Collins, CEO, 140 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill, MA, 01830. Interment will be held in St. James Cemetery.
