Obituary

Alfred R. Carnevale, age 90 of Salem, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Rose A. (Rainville) Carnevale, with whom he had shared 62 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Pittsfield, son of the late Anthony Carnevale and Providenza Coppolino, he first worked for General Electric plastic division until he joined the Navy in 1942. He served aboard the USS Marblehead on Atlantic coastal duty both in North and South America. Following his tour of duty he returned to Pittsfield and shortly after moved to Salem following his marriage to Rose in 1946. He continued his education and graduated from Bentley College in 1949. Al worked in the accounting department for Bomac /Varian of Beverly and later for General Electric in the same capacity. He retired from G.E. in 1984 following 19 years with the company.

Al was extremely devoted to his wife and family, Sunday dinners at Papa’s, where he won countless games of cribbage, were always filled with lots of laughter and especially love and he soaked up every moment with those closest to him. He also managed to find the time to be the Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council # 76 for 18 years. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Fr. Druillette Assembly, as well as Financial Secretary of the AMVETS Post 53 and life member of the DAV and VFW Post 1524 of Salem.

Al is survived by 2 sons, Anthony P. Carnevale and his wife Joan of Salem, Joseph C. Carnevale of Salem, 3 daughters, Marie F. Sinibaldi of Weymouth, Theresa R. Sylvain and her husband Leo of Manchester, NH, Annette T. Pezzulo of Salem, 11 grandchildren, Anthony Carnevale, Jr., Cdr. Eric Sinibaldi and his wife Allison, Andrew Carnevale and his wife Julie, Marc Sinibaldi, Danielle Sylvain and her fiancé Brian Donohue, Tiffany Lynch and her husband Steven, Nicolas Pezzulo, Jessica Carnevale, Julie Sullo and her husband Matthew, Dominic Pezzulo and his wife Erin and Alison Carnevale. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lyla Rose, Benjamin Alfred, Eleanor, Madeline and Sienna, a brother Charles as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Alfred R. Carnevale, Jr., son-in-law Pasquale Pezzulo, Jr., sisters Florence and Rose, brothers Ralph, Mario, Bernardo and Anthony, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 8:45 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass at Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
