Obituary

CHICOPEE – Margaret A. (Molleur) Routhier Dufault, 95, of Agawam and a former resident of Chicopee and Holyoke was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 28, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall West in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Martinville, Province of Quebec, Canada on March 19, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Valmore and Emilia (Marchesseault) Molleur. She spent her childhood in eastern Canada and immigrated to Vermont in 1935, and then married Theodore “Ted” Routhier in Barre, Vermont in1937. They later moved to Massachusetts with their young family. In 1944-45, Ted, while serving his country in the United States Army was taken prisoner of war in the Battle of the Bulge. As a result of that experience, Margaret always held tenderness in her heart for active duty and retired veterans. After his safe return, they saw their family grow to six children. In 1957, Margaret was widowed, and raised her six children as a single parent. She married Raoul “Roy” Dufault of the Cherry Valley section of Worcester in 1971 and they lived in East Brookfield until retiring to Florida in 1990. In 1998, they returned to Massachusetts to be closer to their family. Roy passed in 1999, and Margaret lived at Providence Place in Holyoke and later at Heritage Woods Assisted Living in Agawam. She leaves: her six loving children, Lorraine Bouthiller of Gaffney, SC, Emil Routhier and his wife, Susan, of Holliston, MA, Helen Flis and her husband, John, of Chicopee, Ann Marie “Sue” Sweeney and her husband, Richard, of Newburgh, NY, Donald Routhier and his wife, Nina, of Ashburn, VA, and Diane Routhier of Middletown, CT; nine cherished grandchildren; 14 cherished great grandchildren; and many dear nephews and nieces in the United States and Canada. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, May 2, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester, MA 01603. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
