Obituary

James R. "Mac" McHenry, 67, of Fairhaven, passed away April 22, 2012 at home after a five month battle with cancer, with his wife and grandson Justin by his side. He was the husband of Kathleen (Marujo) McHenry; they had been married for 46 years.

Born in Acushnet, he was the first child of ten of Florence (Costa) McHenry-Relucio and the late George S. McHenry, Sr.

Jim graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1962 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1966. He was involved with the Jolly Whalers Drum and Bugle Corps at an early age and continued his love of Drum Corps as Drum Major for the New Bedford Whalers, Connecticut Hurricanes, The Rhode Island Matadors , and The Emerald Knights Alumni Corps. He retired in 1995 from UPS as Operations Manager, and continued working for DATTCO, and then later for Tremblay’s Motor Coach, retiring due to his illness. Jim’s pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and extended family.

Survivors include his wife and mother; two daughters, Lisa McHenry-Reagan and her husband Glenn and Lori McHenry-Gildae and her husband Greg; his siblings, Elizabeth McHenry, George McHenry and his wife Jeannine, Debra Potkay, Donna McHenry, Norma Kelley and her husband Jim, Susan Swift and her husband Joe, Sharon Degagne and her husband Don, Frances McHenry, Barbara Smith and her husband Tom, his mother-in-law Alice Marujo, his brother-in-law Joseph Marujo, Jr. and his wife Renee; his uncle Dave Costa and his wife Ruth; four grandchildren, Justin LaVoie, Amanda LaVoie, Jade Wilber, Wynter Gildae; five godchildren, Christine Kerans, David Marujo, Jr., Tricia Talbot, Ryan McHenry, Angela Marujo, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also the brother-in-law of the late David Marujo.

His Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Jim’s name to Community Nurse and Hospice Care, P.O.
