Mary M. "Peggy" MacKenzie
Certified Nursing Assistant at Wilmington Health Care Center
TEWKSBURY: Mary M. "Peggy" (Hastings) MacKenzie, age 63, a resident of Tewksbury for 25 years, formerly of Medford and Watertown, passed away at home, on Friday, April 20, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of John B. "Jack" MacKenzie, with whom she would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2012.
Born in Newton on September 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. Hastings and the late Mary L. (Barrett) Hastings.
Peggy was raised in Watertown, attended Watertown schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1966.
Prior to her illness, Peggy worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Wilmington Health Care Center for 8 years. She was previously employed by the Houghton-Mifflin Publishing Company in Burlington for 17 years.
She was a doting grandmother and cherished the time she was able to spend with her five grandchildren.
Peggy was a member of the Clipper City Corvette Club of Saugus and enjoyed cruising with her husband to the beaches and White Mountains of New Hampshire.
In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by two daughters, Janette M. Shapleigh and her husband Kevin of Billerica and Karen J. Balch and her husband Wayne of Tewksbury; one son, Scott T. MacKenzie and his wife Cynthia of Marlboro; five grandchildren, Don MacKenzie of Tewksbury, Erin and Kelly Shapleigh of Billerica and Caroline and Brooke MacKenzie of Marlboro; one sister, Roberta L. "Bobbi" Hesson and her husband Wayne of Crofton, KY; one brother, Richard R. Hastings of Natick; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Peggy was the sister-in-law of the late Frances M. (Harrington) Hastings of Natick.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 25th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Thursday, April 26, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
