Obituary

LOWELL—George R. Byron, a longtime resident of Lowell, died Saturday morning at the Wentworth Nursing Care Center. He was the husband of Mary E. (Fitzpatrick) Byron, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on April 15th.

He was born in Chelmsford, a son of the late George F. and Cora (Maxwell) Byron and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.

Mr. Byron served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. He had been employed as a Textile Engineer by the Faulkner Mills for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law: Mary Ann and John Battle, of Pepperell; a son and daughter-in-law: George E. and Lisa Byron, of Tyngsboro; six grandchildren: Kim, and her husband Chris, Lampron, of Hooksett, NH; Brian Battle, of Dover, NH; Jill Battle and Jennifer Battle, of Pepperell; and Brittany Byron and Adam Byron, of Tyngsboro; a brother: Charles M. Byron, of Reading; nieces and nephews: Grayce Nelson, of Leesburg, FL; George and Janice Fierimonte, of Tewksbury; Mark and Karen Fierimonte, of Pocasset; Sheila Fierimonte, of Lowell; Colleen Connolly, of Lowell; Bradford and Kathy Boyd, of North Wales, PA; Larry and Linda Savage, of Harpswell, ME; Ronald Boyd, of Portland, ME; Charles J. Byron, of Reading; Melanie and Sana Ata, of Carlisle; Richard and Laurie Byron, of Andover; and Carolyn and Ward Lowe, of Austin, TX; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: George and Anna Fierimonte, of Lowell.

He was the grandfather of the late Jay W. Lorrey, and brother of the late Grace Atherton and Alice Boyd.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 20th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Wednesday morning, April 21st, at 10:30 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
