George A. Simmons, 77, of Westport, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Dolores M. (Rapoza) Simmons.
Born in Tiverton, Mr. Simmons was the son of the late George W. and Mabel M.A. (Fish) Simmons-Davis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Mr. Simmons worked for I.B.E.W. Local #99 in Rhode Island and he had also worked as an electrical inspector for the Town of Westport as Superintendant of the maintenance department for the school department. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport. Mr. Simmons enjoyed planes, trains and automobiles.
Survivors besides his loving wife include a son: Paul Simmons of Portsmouth, RI; 3 daughters: Nancy Corrado of PA, Carol Simmons and Lisa Kirby both of Westport and 8 grandchildren.
Mr. Simmons was the brother of the late Muriel Melancon and Elvira Mavrofrides.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 5:00 P.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790.
Calling hours will be from 2-5 P.M. prior to the service.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
