LAWRENCE – Bernice M. McCarthy, 79 of Lawrence, died Saturday April 14, 2012 at Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born and educated in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of John and Lena (Harrington) Farrisey and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. For many years she worked at John Hancock and for 20 years was an office clerk with Brox Industries before retiring.
Bernice was an avid Red Sox fan and dedicated an entire room in her home to Red Sox collectables. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, going to lunch with her sister, taking trips to Belchertown, MA and loved her dog Varitek.
The widow of Francis E. McCarthy, she is survived by her children, Michael F. McCarthy of Haverhill, MA, Maureen P. McCarthy of Lawrence, MA and Sheila M. Hamel and her husband Jeffrey of Tewksbury, MA.
One sister Teresa Morin of Pelham, NH.
Grandchildren Nicole and Steven Hamel and Brynn and Aidan McCarthy and several nieces and nephews.
Bernice was predeceased by her brother John Farrisey.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover, MA.
